Washington, DC -- Joe Balash, former assistant Interior secretary for land and minerals, is reportedly joining a foreign oil company that stands to benefit from Balash’s push to open the Arctic Refuge for drilling. During his time at Interior, Balash was a main driver of the Trump administration’s rushed attempt to sell off the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to fossil fuel companies.

WASHINGTON, DC - As a number of candidates suspend their campaigns, and ahead of a historic CNN Town Hall devoted to the climate crisis, climate voters’ support for Elizabeth Warren (21%, +1) and Bernie Sanders (20%, +4) is strengthening. Joe Biden continues to lead the pack with climate voters at a stable 30% as the Sierra Club releases the third round of its tracking poll conducted by Morning Consult. Kamala Harris saw a significant drop in support from climate voters since the second round, falling from 13% to 7% (-6).

Washington, DC — The Trump administration announced today it will take $3.6 billion from military construction projects for 11 new border wall projects. Trump announced plans to raid  the military’s budget set aside for specific projects back in February when he declared a national emergency to try and build his wall along the southern border. No court has yet weighed in on the legality of using military funds.

LOS ANGELES -- On Sept. 28, the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter and Team Sierra will host outdoors advocates from across the city for the first-annual City Hike: LA fundraising event. The trek will guide participants throughout the city in order to raise money for clean energy, clean transportation, and the safeguard of California’s lands. Los Angeles currently ranks among the top U.S. cities for highest levels of toxic smog.

OAKLAND, CA – Today, Sierra, the national magazine of the Sierra Club, released its thirteenth annual “Cool Schools” ranking of North America’s greenest colleges and universities. This year, Sierra received submissions from a record 282 schools across the United States and Canada.

Louisiana -- CLECO filed its Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) at the Louisiana Public Service Commission today that will guide the energy mix used to provide electricity to customers across Louisiana for the next 20 years.  The plan provides for acquiring up to 1400 MW of wind and cutting back the operation of its Dolet Hills coal-burning power plant but all of the available data shows that Dolet Hills should be permanently retried as soon as feasible.
