Calcasieu Parish, LA - Today, news broke that Shell and Vitol dropped their investments in Tellurian Inc’s Driftwood LNG, one of the largest fracked gas export terminals proposed in Southwest Louisiana (SWLA). Shell’s announcement comes just days after Tellurian Inc.’s failed $1 billion bond sale, plunging stock in the project by 24%.

Tacoma, WA -- Yesterday, 16 organizations including Native Daily Network, the Sierra Club, and 350 Tacoma submitted a letter calling on Tacoma Power to revise its Bill Credit Assistance Program (BCAP) by expanding eligibility, improving ease of access, and increasing the amount of guaranteed monthly assistance.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today Republican Senators employed the filibuster, a Jim Crow-era tool, to prevent the Senate from holding a vote or even starting a debate on the Democracy Is Strengthened by Casting Light On Spending in Elections (DISCLOSE) Act. The DISCLOSE Act would strengthen our democracy by shining a brighter light on outside groups that spend money in elections and judicial nominations, requiring them to disclose the names of the polluters and wealthy donors who contribute more than $10,000. Since the 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court decision, dark-money expenditures increased from less than $5 million in 2006 to more than $300 million in the 2012 election cycle and topped $1 billion in 2020.

Portland, OR – Today, public health professionals, Multnomah County residents, youth activists, and community organizations delivered a petition with more than 1,000 signatures urging Multnomah County officials to require all-electric new buildings and to plan a just transition away from polluting and dangerous fossil fuel infrastructure in existing buildings. The petition cites the growing body of research that demonstrates the significant impacts to indoor and outdoor air quality, and to public health broadly, from burning methane gas in buildings.
