The House today passed the FY2021 Minibus 1. The bill increases funding for the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Environmental Protection Agency and includes provisions to protect and prioritize public health, while supporting environmental programs to address climate change,safeguard clean water and invest in green infrastructure. Also included are specific provisions for fighting racism, increasing environmental justice activities and funding research into the role of protecting wildlife and wild places to prevent future pandemics.

HARRISBURG, PA. -- Today, Governor Tom Wolf signed HB 732 into law, giving dirty industries financial incentives and further encouraging the expansion of fracking. The law will provide over $690 million in tax credits over 26 years. As a result, petrochemical and fossil fuel companies are incentivized to ramp up operations, leading to more pollution and dirty infrastructure.

The Wisconsin Public Service Commission voted today to extend the utility disconnection moratorium for residential customers until September 1, 2020. The commission decided 2-1 to extend the moratorium in order to safeguard the public health of Wisconsin residents during the COVID-19 health crisis. The PSC had previously voted on June 11 to end the moratorium on utility disconnections.

Lansing, Michigan -- Yesterday, Michigan adopted the proposed PFAS Maximum Contaminant Load (MCL), which will help limit toxic PFAS chemicals in the state’s drinking water. More than two million Michiganders currently have detectable PFAS chemicals in their drinking water supply.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Great American Outdoors Act. The historic bill permanently funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund, guaranteeing $900 million annually for the improvement of our parks. It also provides $9.5 billion over five years to address the nearly $12 billion backlog of maintenance projects across national parks and public lands.

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, the Sierra Club, American Civil Liberties Union and Southern Border Communities Coalition asked the Supreme Court to halt construction of President Trump’s border wall. In the motion, the groups urge the court to lift an earlier stay that allowed the Trump administration to divert $2.5 billion from military pay and pension funds for border wall construction that Congress explicitly denied.

On Monday, Columbus City Council approved a ballot measure to set up a Community Choice Aggregation program, which would allow the city to be powered by 100 percent clean, renewable energy by 2022. The initiative will be the city’s ballot in November, allowing voters to decide whether Columbus should pursue Community Choice Aggregation, a program that allows local governments to negotiate for and purchase energy on behalf of their residents.
