Dear Supporter,

The saying “when it rains, it pours” might not best describe Wyoming in August, but it certainly feels applicable to our work at the Sierra Club Wyoming. I hope you’ve taken some time this summer to get some R&R, because this newsletter is geared toward getting you primed for action! Read on for key environmental updates, action opportunities, and details on upcoming events and outings.

Join us to view and discuss the impacts of the 2024 Elk Fire on the Bighorn National Forest. Learn the ecology and management principles behind fire recovery on the landscape while taking a hike near fire break lines.

We will start from the East Bear Gulch Trailhead on the Red Grade trail system, and take a moderate 3 mile hike with some rocky and steep areas to navigate.

Join us to discuss the future of the Bridger Teton National Forest and to share your thoughts on where we should focus our efforts during the forest revision process, which is now underway. We’ll review major takeaways from the forest’s recently released draft assessment, discuss next steps in the planning process, and help you draft and submit your comment.

Join us for our annual picnic potluck at Vedauwoo, in partnership this year with Juntos Wyoming and Latino Outdoors. Let's come together to share knowledge, stories, and good food as we experience the beauty of the Medicine Bow National Forest.

This hike + picnic is the perfect opportunity for folks looking for a welcoming space to learn about how to access the outdoors and for experienced recreators to pass their knowledge on to other community members.

We will also talk about how to be better stewards of the landscape and how we can stand up in support members of the immigrant community as we all navigate pressing challenges to humanity and freedom.

Updates to Protect Our Forests

Bridger-Teton Planning

The Bridger-Teton National Forest has released their draft assessment detailing the state of the forest and setting the stage for their forest planning revision process. They need your input to make sure they’re taking the plan in the right direction. The public comment period is open through August 24, 2025. Additionally, the Bridger-Teton National Forest will host in-person meetings to discuss the assessment next week in Afton, Jackson, and Pinedale. Roadless Rule in Peril

In June, the Trump Administration announced their intention to revoke the Roadless Rule, which has been responsible for protecting 58.5 million acres across the National Forest System. Wyoming's roadless areas provide vital wildlife habitat, protect clean water, and allows for quite backcountry recreational opportunities that we all cherish. A comment period on this decision could open as early as later this month, so keep an eye on you inbox for future action alerts from us on this issue. Help Protect Your Voice in Federal Decision-Making

Weakening the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)

NEPA is one of our most powerful environmental protection laws. It requires the federal government to consider the views of communities and take health and environmental concerns into account when making decisions that affect you. But under Trump's direction, federal agencies will be able sideline science, silence communities, and fast-track polluting projects.

Please submit your comment today and tell the Trump Administration that you oppose these unnecessary rollbacks and demand a full environmental review process that puts people first.
