END COLORADO WILDLIFE
KILLING FOR FUR SALES!

At this moment, bobcats, beavers, coyotes, raccoons, and 13 other
species are still being trapped and killed for their fur. Colorado allows
unlimited killing for a $35 license. Your voice can help stop this.
On March 4–5, 2026, Colorado Parks and Wildlife commissioners heard a
petition to ban the sale of fur from wildlife in our state.
Students and community members who cared about wildlife showed up. Every voice,
every email, and every person in the room determined what CPW decided, and they decided to consider this petition, and are now discussing its terms!

See? Your voice matters. Will you continue to stand up for Colorado’s wildlife and speak out against
this cruel tradition?
Science for Colorado Wildlife uses best available
science to protect Colorado’s wildlife and the habitats
they need to thrive. We get research into the hands
of decision-makers, spotlight the science behind
biodiversity, and speak up for wildlife across the state.

Letter to the Editor, March 18th, 2026, Grand Junction Sentinal

My name is Janet Wyatt and I am a resident of Mesa County. I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed oil and gas leases on over 160,000 acres of Colorado public lands. Opening up lease sales in areas already deemed sensitive or protected for plants, wildlife and other reasons goes against the Bureau of Land Management's own rules. A section of the rule states that is "ensures responsible leasing and diligent development to minimize conflicts with other resources while ensuring the BLM can continue to manage public lands for multiple uses." The rule also allows oil and gas leasing to focus on areas with existing infrastructure and high oil and gas potential. However, most of the leases being offered are not in high-potential areas or areas that already have existing infrastructure. Instead, many of the areas offered overlap wildlife management areas, areas with sensitive plant and animal species, and recreation areas that are important to our community. Who wants to recreate on public lands surrounded by oil and gas structures that potentially emit methane and spoil the viewshed? I sure don't, and think more people should be concerned about the developed proposed nearby areas like Vega Lake! Public lands are essential to our way of life here in Mesa County. They support wildlife, provide recreational opportunities, and contribute to our local economy and quality of life. Decisions about their use should reflect careful planning and respect for these values. Public lands in Mesa County should be managed to minimize conflicts with other resources, preserve habitat, maintain clean air and water, and protect recreation opportunities. I urge others to speak up and the tell the BLM and our elected leaders to withdraw leases in sensitive areas and to prioritize responsible leasing.
