A diverse coalition of leading climate, environment, and human rights organizations announced today the launch of an auto supply chain industry Leaderboard and global campaign calling on automakers to capitalize on the unprecedented opportunity offered by the electric vehicle (EV) transition to clean up their supply chains. The Leaderboard analyzes the publicly available official reporting of 18 of the leading automotive manufacturers in the world, ranking their efforts to eliminate emissions, environmental harms, and human rights violations from their supply chains.

WASHINGTON - This week, the Postal Service announced it is purchasing 9,250 electric Ford delivery vans and 14,000 chargers, investing billions into the electrification of its fleet. However, the USPS is simultaneously buying 9,250 gas-powered vans that will be on US roads by this winter.

ALBANY, NY — New York can avoid over 400 hospital visits and save over $80 billion by transitioning to zero-emission electric cars and light-duty trucks, according to a new report. The New York Advanced Clean Cars II Program report investigated the climate, health, and job benefits if the state were to adopt Advanced Clean Cars II, a program which, by 2035, would require that every new car and light-duty truck sold in New York be zero-emission. The report was prepared by ERM and commissioned by NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) and the Sierra Club.

ROCHESTER, NY - Today, the Department of Energy announced it will lend $375 million to the battery recycling company Li-Cycle to build a lithium battery resource recovery facility in Rochester, ensuring the recycling of lithium batteries for electric vehicles (EVs).

PORTLAND — Today, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) voted to adopt the Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) program, setting the state on a path to lower vehicle emissions and a healthy transition to electric vehicles and cleaner air, by requiring that every new light-duty vehicle sold in Oregon to be a zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) by 2035.

Seattle, WA - Today, the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) announced their adoption of three regulations: the Advanced Clean Cars II Rule (ACC II), the Heavy-Duty Omnibus Low NOx Rule, and the Fleet Reporting Requirement. ACC II requires an increasing percentage of new zero-emission (includes battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell electric) light-duty passenger vehicles (ZEVs) be made available in Washington State, culminating in 100% new zero-emission sales by model year 2035 and beyond.
