Documentary Sets Stage for Lac-Mégantic Memorial March

No train derailment in railroading history showcases the systemic failure of the railroading industry more comprehensively than the tragedy of Lac-Mégantic in Quebec, Canada. On July 6, 2013, a runaway train disaster sparked a series of events that revealed the extent of corporate greed, regulatory capture, disregard for human life, and scapegoating embedded in private corporate operations.

A new four-part documentary series by Academy Award-nominated director Philippe Falardeau sheds light on the disaster—and sets the stage for the upcoming Lac-Mégantic 10th Anniversary Memorial March.

Falardeau and co-writer Nancy Guerin will present “Lac-Mégantic: This Is Not an Accident” this month in Paris, France, and Toronto, Canada. Watch the official trailer: https://youtu.be/sKBydIzu_oI

The production gives credit to La Coalition Rail Safety Campaign for its work in the United States to protect communities from similar tragedies.

Continuing its work, the Rail Safety Campaign is now calling on members and volunteers to support a devastated community and rally against the continued wrongs of the railroad industry.

Join our next Rail Safety Campaign planning meeting on Monday, May 1, to learn how you can help our Canadian brothers and sisters and build a movement for railroad safety in Canada and the United States.
