Healthy rivers support healthy communities. That’s why it’s important for us to take good care of the 3-mile-long Waukegan River.
This small river is one of Waukegan's most important natural resources. It flows through deep valleys (ravines), runs through the city's historic downtown, and empties straight into Lake Michigan—the lake that gives us our daily drinking water.
Please join our first community river cleanup. Let us work together to make the water cleaner and protect the homes of local wildlife.
We will give you all the cleanup supplies you need. Please wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals) and comfortable clothes. Remember to bring a reusable water bottle!
