You may recall that in our previous newsletter, I talked about the importance and urgency of contributing to the New Jersey Sierra Club Political Action Committee (PAC). I do so again now, because the stakes have only grown. It’s time to act.
As you may know, our Chapter has officially endorsed US Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ-11) for governor of New Jersey. A link to the full endorsement is below.
The announcement properly highlights the reasons why a Sherrill administration would be well aligned with the environmental causes we all care about. The alternative candidate is simply unacceptable: The election of Jack Ciattarelli (R-16) would be an environmental disaster for our state. He would do to New Jersey what his endorser in the White House is doing to the nation.
Our Chapter is fully committed to doing everything in our power to ensure a Sherrill victory. That will require our time and our energy. It will also require money. The problem is, there are legal limits on our ability to use Chapter funds for electoral purposes. Only PAC money can fund these efforts on an unrestricted basis.
You may have already received our special PAC fundraising letter. We conduct three mail campaigns a year, generally to fund our normal operating expenses. However, this solicitation is different. It is for the PAC—to fund our gubernatorial election activities. We need this money now. Later in the year will be too late.
Many, if not most, of our loyal donors make an annual donation, responding to one or another of our mail campaigns. In most years, this is fine, but this year, we must humbly ask for an additional donation to support the PAC. It is the only way we can do the things we need to do to help prevent the unthinkable. (We’ve already experienced the unthinkable last year, and we don’t want a repeat performance.)
So… earlier this summer, you should have received our solicitation letter for our PAC. If you have received it and haven’t donated yet, please consider doing so—the sooner, the better.
If you have not received the letter and wish to donate, or if you’ve been inspired to chip in a few more bucks, probably the easiest way to do so is online. Use this link: SC.org/NJOutside2025
Note that you will be asked to indicate your occupation and your employer’s name and address. Not our idea—it’s a legal requirement. Or you can send a check payable to New Jersey Sierra Club PAC and addressed to PO Box 269, Garwood, NJ 07027. Be sure to include a note with your occupation and employer information.
I hope you agree that the stakes could not be higher. Help us win this. Please donate today.
