Inspiring Connections Outdoors

Getting outdoors is the best way to appreciate the transformative power of nature, and why we should preserve it.  The Sierra Club New Jersey Chapter sponsors hikes and other outings, and also has youth programs that help provide access to youth from communities that have limited access to the outdoors – for the benefit of both.

Sierra Club outings are conducted by trained Sierra Club outings leaders and are open to all those who are interested, members and non-members alike. Each outing is intended to be a wholesome, safe, and enjoyable experience outdoors to allow a greater appreciation of, respect for and desire to protect the natural world around us.

Outings

Sierra Club outings are arranged by volunteer leaders who are in charge of the trip and responsible for the safety, welfare and enjoyment of all participants. Unless otherwise specified, events are free and open to the public. Learn more about our group outings.

New Jersey State Long Trail

The NJ State Long Trail is a 383-mile-long hiking trail and greenway that will extend from the northern end of the state (High Point, the highest point in New Jersey) to the southern end (Cape May Point, at sea level).  It will connect many of the most beautiful areas of the state by providing a trail for hikers and other users of public open space, and a contiguous greenway for the movement of wildlife between these natural areas.  Explore the NJ State Long Trail.

Inspiring Connections Outdoors

Empowering youth from communities with limited access to connect and reconnect to the outdoors—for the benefit of both. The Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO) program is helping create the next generation of environmental justice and social justice leaders through building community and increasing exposure to outdoor recreation, advocacy, and leadership training. ICO provides safe and fun outdoor experiences for youth and adults from marginalized communities. ICO is part of the Outdoors for All campaign, which works to expand universal access to nature for children and youth. Learn more about ICO.
