Sun Worship!

The New Jersey Chapter of the Sierra Club called attention to the importance of renewable energy at a Sun Day celebration at Holmdel Park in Holmdel in September. Sun Day is a nationwide day of action celebrating solar and wind power that is organized by the climate‑advocacy coalition ThirdAct.

Information booths were set up in front of one of the park’s covered pavilions, featuring the Club’s Clean Energy Committee, the Building Electrification Committee, the Chapter’s Jersey Shore Group, the Holmdel Green Team, and ThirdAct. It was a warm, sunny Sunday, and many park visitors stopped by.

The program included a series of speakers, boxed lunches with ice cream, a group singalong, and a group hike around the large park led by Club members Sindu Pasricha and Leona Fluck. Speakers included Chapter Director Anjuli Ramos‑Busot; Waterspirit Public Policy and Justice Organizer Rachel Dawn Davis; Olivia Xu, Student Action Committee chair; Pat Miller and Steve Miller, both co‑chairs of the Chapter’s Building Electrification Committee and former BellLabs employees; and Bob Wilson, a Nobel Prize‑winning retired scientist from Bell Laboratories.
