Sierra Club has endorsed Chris Russo for Morris County commissioner.
Throughout his time on the Morristown Council, Chris Russo has supported policies that recognize conservation as an investment in Morris County’s future. Last year, he supported a successful referendum establishing Morristown’s Open Space Trust Fund, creating a dedicated funding source to preserve open space, protect environmentally sensitive lands, expand parks and trails, and ensure the long-term stewardship of the county’s natural resources.
The referendum also committed Morristown to updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan so such investments will be guided by thoughtful, long-term planning.
In addition to his public service, Chris Murphy has developed a deep appreciation for New Jersey’s parks and open spaces through his work as the co-owner of Superhero Events, a company that organizes races/marathons and community events throughout the state. These events rely on healthy, well-maintained parks, trails, and public spaces to bring communities together, promote healthy lifestyles, and support local economies. They have reinforced Russo’s belief that investing in our environment benefits everyone, not only by protecting wildlife and natural resources, but also by improving public health, strengthening our communities, and enhancing our quality of life.
If elected as a Morris County commissioner, Russo will continue to champion the preservation of open space and farmland, protect our tree canopy and water resources, encourage smart and sustainable development, and ensure that Morris County remains a place where residents can enjoy a healthy environment for generations to come.
The Sierra Club encourages all Morris County residents to vote for Chris Russo.
