The Sierra Club Endorses Mikie Sherrill for NJ Governor

The New Jersey Chapter of the Sierra Club has endorsed U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ-11) for Governor in the 2025 election, citing her strong environmental leadership and bold vision for a cleaner, healthier New Jersey.

In Congress, Sherrill has fought for and secured millions of dollars to make communities more flood-resilient, replace lead service lines, and reduce environmental pollution. She played a key role in passing the Great American Outdoors Act, protecting beloved natural sites like the Delaware Water Gap and Sandy Hook. Her leadership has consistently delivered real results for New Jersey families.

“We need urgent action to mitigate flooding, produce clean energy, remediate brownfields, clean up Superfund sites, and remove dangerous chemicals from our drinking water,” said Sherrill. “It’s not just the right thing to do for our environment — it’s the right thing for our economy.”

The Sierra Club also reviewed the record of Republican candidate Jack Cittarelli, a former member of the New Jersey Assembly (R-16) and Somerset County Freeholder. Cittarelli has pledged to rewrite the state’s clean energy roadmap, expand fossil fuel use, and block offshore wind projects — an agenda that would roll back progress at a time when New Jersey can least afford it. His platform would worsen pollution, raise energy costs, and expose communities to greater risk from storms, heatwaves, and unsafe drinking water.

For these reasons, the Sierra Club stands firmly behind Mikie Sherrill — a leader ready to fight for New Jersey’s environment, economy, and future. Learn more at her campaign website.
