Minneapolis, MN – Today the Sierra Club North Star Chapter announced its endorsement of Ilhan Omar for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district. .
"We are excited to endorse Rep. Ilhan Omar for the 5th Congressional District,” said Josh Davis, Political Committee co-chair for Sierra Club North Star. “Omar is an organizer and bridge-builder who impressed us with her commitment to advancing climate justice, proven experience building coalitions, and deep understanding of the intersection between environmental, health and social justice issues. Her outstanding leadership will be more important than ever given the current administration's relentless attacks on our air, water, lands and climate. As a U.S. Representative, Rep. Omar will fight for 100% clean energy, strong lands and water protections, and justice for Indigenous and communities of color who are disproportionately harmed by pollution. And she will stand up to the fossil fuel industries that are polluting not only our environment, but our politics. In a field of strong candidates, we know that Rep. Ilhan Omar is the right choice to continue Congressman Keith Ellison's legacy of outspoken, inspirational environmental leadership and organizing. We are proud to endorse Rep. Omar and look forward to her fighting for the environment in D.C."
The Sierra Club will mobilize its members nationwide to support endorsed candidates.
"Environmental destruction is one of the greatest threats of our time,” said Rep.
