Trump Keeps Lying about the Reality of his Dangerous Cars Rollback

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Donald Trump took to Twitter to lie in defense of his dangerous clean cars rollback.

A recent Consumer Reports study shows that the rollback will cost American consumers an additional $460 billion, which comes out to an added $3300 per new vehicle, compared to keeping the current standards. The clean car standards are the most effective policy we have on the books to fight climate change, and the transportation sector is the country’s largest source of the carbon pollution that causes climate change. The Trump administration’s push for dirtier, less efficient vehicles would pump more carbon pollution into our air.

Furthermore, last year, the Trump administration was forced to walk back its leading argument for rolling back the clean car standards – that the new rule would make Americans safer – after expert scrutiny revealed fatal flaws in their methodology.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“There’s not a single thing that is true in Donald Trump’s tweet. Trump’s rollback is unraveling from every corner, but rather than listening to nearly every single sector of society - consumer advocates, environmentalists, and even the auto industry - he’s spreading lies on Twitter.”
