Faith leaders from numerous faith traditions will come together, wearing air filter masks over their traditional garments to show that eliminating common sense environmental protections will harm our neighbors, as dirty air and a damaged climate make people sick.

Sacramento, CA -- Today, the California State Lands Commission announced that will begin the process of decommissioning Platform Holly, an oil and gas infrastructure in the Pacific Ocean.

The news comes as Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke, is set to give a speech in Santa Barbara amid speculation that the Trump administration is planning on opening up offshore drilling operations in previously banned waters.

Deadhorse, Alaska -- A British Petroleum (BP) oil and gas well on Alaska’s Northern Slope that blew out on Friday continues to spill crude oil and gas uncontrollably. No one was injured when the well blew out.

 

This disaster comes on the heels of two spills in Alaska’s Cook inlet and less than a week before the seven year anniversary of BP’s Deepwater Horizon catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico.

President Trump has waived 28 more federal laws to begin construction on three miles of border wall in Calexico on top of the 37 already waived for construction near San Diego. These waivers include protections for public health, farmland, animal rights and environmental safeguards-- dismissing laws like the Clean Air Act and Native American Graves Protection Act.

Today, the Minnesota Department of Commerce submitted testimony to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) on Enbridge’s certificate of need application for its proposed Line 3 tar sands pipeline expansion project. The PUC will be accepting public comments over the next few months and is expected to make a decision next spring.

White House Homeland Security Advisory Tom Bossert, when pressed on the increased severity and frequency of Hurricanes by a White House reporter, just told the American people that “We continue to take the climate change seriously, not the cause of it, but the things that we observe.” This statement stands in stark contrasts to the actual actions taken by this administration, including repeated efforts to defund climate change research, censorship of the term “climate change” throughout the federal government, the appointment of climate deniers to the highest posts in the Administration, and the elimination of President Obama’s flood risk rule just weeks before Hurricane Harvey hit.
