Scott Pruitt Takes First Steps to Replace Life-Saving Clean Power Plan with "Do Nothing" Alternative
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, according to several reports, Scott Pruitt’s EPA announced the first step in his efforts to replace the Clean Power Plan with a polluter-friendly alternative, throwing out a plan that would prevent 3,600 premature deaths and 90,000 asthma attacks every year by 2030.
Despite mounting public opposition from a broad coalition of Indigenous and environmental groups, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo renewed their participation in a set of loans totaling $1.5 billion to TransCanada, the company behind the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.
Phoenix, AZ - Senator Flake previously voted for a Republican Tax plan which has only gotten worse since, and which contradicts his own stated principles on multiple counts. Now, he has an opportunity to take a principled stand as other Republican leaders ignore promises made to him about reaching a solution for undocumented children.
The Lansing Board of Water and Light (LBWL) announced plans to build a $500 million fracked gas plant in Delta Township. Plans for new construction have been in the works since 2015, but leads to raised bills and long term investment on fossil fuel.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - According to public reports, the Trump administration will drop climate change from a list of global threats in a new National Security Strategy (NSS) to be unveiled Monday. A new report demonstrates that two power plants operated by Entergy, the largest utility in Arkansas, are emitting enough pollution to make the unhealthy ozone smog problems worse in the St. Louis area. The report shows that smog-forming emissions from the Entergy White Bluff and Independence coal plants are elevating ozone levels by more than 4 times the amount public health agencies qualify as significant amount. Moreover, the plants are significantly impacting St. Louis ozone levels around 22 days per summer. These dangerous emissions of smog causing Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) could be reduced by 98% or more by installing Selective Catalytic Reduction, a widely used pollution control that has been around for more than 20 years.
Oklahoma City, OK -- This year, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt has given a lot to families across the country and in his home state of Oklahoma: dirty air, polluted water, and toxins like mercury and chlorpyrifos. And, every time he’s attacked a clean air or clean water safeguard, it’s been a huge gift to the corporate polluters he works so closely with who have given so much money to his campaigns and political efforts.
This is more smoke and mirrors than an actual commitment to get off dirty fossil fuels, reduce climate pollution and meet our state’s climate goals. Puget Sound Energy is likely to exceed this commitment under the status quo, as previous commitments to retire some of its dirty coal plants go ahead in the coming years.
A group of clean air and parks conservation advocacy groups today challenged the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) plan to allow polluters to increase health and visibility-harming pollution in court.
