For the last 20 years, San Luis Obispo County has hosted the Creeks to Coast Cleanup, where hundreds of volunteers come together to remove thousands of pounds of pollution from creeks, lakes, parks, and coastlines across the county. ECOSLO has been organizing this event since 2005 as part of the larger statewide Coastal Cleanup Day. This year, the event will take place on Saturday, September 19th, from 9 am to Noon.
There are approximately 40 sites spread throughout North and South County you can sign up to volunteer at. Site captains will provide volunteers with gloves, trash and recycling bags, and data collection cards. Volunteers will work in groups to collect trash. Then everyone will reassemble at the end to tally the collected items and dispose of them properly. The Sierra Club Santa Lucia Chapter will oversee the Morro Strand Dog Beach/Toro Creek site, with two of our Executive Committee members, Jack DePuy and Madeline Schechter, serving as site captains.
