In 2005, environmental photographer James Balog embarked on a series of trips to the Arctic to document melting glaciers. What he discovered changed him. Two years later, he founded the Extreme Ice Survey. The story that followed—one of extraordinary endurance and commitment to recording the grave reality of a vanishing world—became the basis for the 2012 award-winning film Chasing Ice. The sequel, Chasing Time, directed by Jeff Orlowski-Yang and Sarah Keo, captures the closing chapter of Balog’s decades-long effort to raise awareness of melting ice worldwide, including the receding glacier Svínafellsjökull in Iceland, shown here.
