What Is Clean Energy?

Clean energy comes from sources that don’t pollute the air or contribute to climate change - like solar, wind, geothermal, and energy efficiency technologies. These resources are renewable, meaning they won’t run out, and they’re more affordable than dirty, aging fossil fuels.

In Texas, clean energy is more than an environmental solution - it’s an economic powerhouse. Our state leads the nation in wind energy, ranks among the top in solar growth, and is home to thousands of new clean energy jobs that support local communities.

Why It Matters for Texas

Clean energy strengthens our grid, lowers utility costs, and attracts major investments that keep Texas’ energy market competitive. It also helps communities prepare for extreme weather and ensures our power system is more reliable and resilient.

The Pushback, and the Power of People

Even as Texas leads in clean energy, polluters and special interests work hard to slow progress. Fossil fuel corporations and their lobbyists pour millions into misinformation campaigns and political influence to keep our state dependent on outdated, polluting energy.

But when Texans organize, we win. People power keeps moving Texas forward. Every time we come together - neighbors, advocates, and everyday Texans - we prove that our future doesn’t belong to polluters. It belongs to all of us who are fighting for clean air, reliable power, and a livable planet.

History of Clean Energy in Texas

Texas has long been an energy powerhouse - and clean energy is the latest chapter in that story. The state’s wind industry began taking shape in the early 2000s, driven by forward-looking state policies and the vast open spaces of West Texas. Over the next two decades, Texas became the nation’s top producer of wind power and is now a leader in solar energy.
Today, clean energy is expanding rapidly - not just in generation, but in battery storage, grid modernization, and workforce development, helping Texas transition toward a more reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy system for everyone.
