Are you ready for an inspiring evening of celebration, connection, and community? Join the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter on January 25, 2025, from 6:30 to 9:00 PM at the Alamo Cafe in San Antonio, Texas, for an unforgettable night honoring Texas’ environmental champions!

Honoring Hector Gonzalez and Senator José Menendez: A Legacy of Leadership
This year, we proudly celebrate the outstanding contributions of Hector Gonzalez, a Sierra Club leader whose commitment spans more than three decades. As treasurer for both the Lone Star Chapter and the Sierra Club Political Committee of Texas since the 1980s, Hector has been a steady hand in navigating the organization’s finances. His leadership extended to his role as a representative of the Alamo Group on the Lone Star Chapter Executive Committee. This evening will be an opportunity to honor his incredible legacy.
We’re thrilled to present longtime community and environmental advocate, Texas State Senator José Menendez, with our Legislative Champion Award. Senator Menendez has supported and led on issues critical to the Sierra Club in Texas, including multiple clean energy issues in response to the disaster of the 2021 winter storm. With his leadership, we’ve been able to raise the profile of the benefits of clean energy programs like demand response and battery storage, as well as the need to make sure that everyday Texans, not just big energy companies, are looked after when it comes to legislation to modernize our electric grid.
When merited, the legislative champion award is given to members of the Texas Legislature after each legislative session in recognition of their steadfast commitment to fighting for the environment at the Texas Capitol. Award winners are determined, in part, by receiving a strong score on our Texas Legislative Scorecard, which represents a cross section of Sierra Club's legislative priorities, as well as by playing a key role in advancing Sierra Club’s legislative priorities.
