Protect Texas Water: Join the Water for People & the Environment Committee

Water is life - and it's under threat in Texas. The Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter is mobilizing communities statewide to protect Texas water resources for both people and the environment. Through our Water for People & the Environment Committee, you can get informed, get connected, and take action.

Why Water Advocacy Matters in Texas

Texas is facing an escalating water crisis:

  • More frequent and severe droughts
  • Growing water scarcity across the state
  • Pollution from various sources
  • Weak environmental protections for rivers, lakes, aquifers, and coastal ecosystems
  • Inequitable access to clean and safe water

We believe all Texans - regardless of geography, background, or income - deserve clean, abundant, and accessible water. That’s why this committee exists.

What Is the Water for People & the Environment Committee?

The Water for People & the Environment Committee is a statewide volunteer initiative dedicated to protecting Texas’ water. We're building a collaborative network of advocates, experts, and everyday Texans who care about water justice, clean rivers, and sustainable water policies.

Our mission is simple: to protect Texas’ water by empowering communities through grassroots advocacy and public education to shape policy solutions that benefit people and the environment.

Our Vision: A Water-Secure Texas for All

A Texas united by water. Whether you're worried about river flows in Central Texas, seawater desalination on the Gulf Coast, or crumbling infrastructure in your community, we are stronger when we work together.

"When Texans across the state understand and care about these shared issues, they can support each other in advocating for solutions that benefit everyone." - Evgenia Spears, Water Program Coordinator, Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter
