Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter Calls On Texas Legislators to Prioritize Affordability, Public Health, Transparency Ahead of 90th Legislative Session
AUSTIN, Texas - Today, the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter released its 2027 Legislative Policy Platform - a document that will guide the grassroots organization’s advocacy work over the course of the 90th Legislative Session.
Key themes of the Policy Platform include protecting ratepayers and taxpayers from unfair costs, strengthening public participation and transparency, prioritizing proven, affordable, community-centered solutions to meet our energy and water needs, and preserving public access to information, land, water, and natural resources.
“We’re ready,” said the Chapter’s Legislative and Conservation Director, Cyrus Reed. “No matter what the political landscape looks like - whose in power - we’ll fight for the policies that benefit Texans. Not big industries, billionaires, or corporations. Real Texans who are feeling the effects of rising costs, extreme weather, and industrial expansion every day.”
“Our Policy Platform reflects the needs of Texans across the state,” said Dave Cortez, Chapter Director. “From the looming threat of unregulated seawater desalination in Corpus Christi, to rapid data center development in San Antonio, to toxic air pollution in major metroplexes like DFW and Houston - Texas leaders have gotten away with putting industry over people for too long. The solutions we propose are logical, affordable, and shouldn’t be ignored.
Anyone can show support for our Policy Platform by sending it to their legislators. We can have every meeting, make every phone call, but we really need constituents speaking up. Change only happens when we all work together.”
The Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter will continue meeting with legislators throughout the interim.
