National Sierra Club Elections
Time to VOTE!

Those eligible to vote in the national Sierra Club election will receive in the mail (or by Internet if you chose the electronic delivery option) your national Sierra Club ballot in early March.

Each candidate provides a statement about themselves and their views on the issues on the official election ballot. Visit the Sierra Club’s election web site for additional information about candidates.

Please note your ballots must be received by no later than noon EST, April 27, 2022.
Take Action
Protect the Green River Watershed

Loo Wit can start 2022 off with a celebration that we helped stop mining in the Green River Watershed northeast of Mt. St. Helens , through a multi-group partnership spearheaded by Cascade Forest Conservancy (CFC). Although this is the 3rd successful lawsuit, and the most definitive one challenging mining permits in the area, CFC is cautious to remind us that the threat remains until the area gets permanent federal protection. The way to achieve this would be for Congress to enact a 'mineral withdrawal' for the Green River Watershed.

Reach out now to our U.S. Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray for permanent protections, via a mineral withdrawal, for the Green River Watershed.

Outings Update

National Sierra Club’s outings activities team (OAT) continues to meet monthly on Zoom, and plans to release an update on 2022 outings policies.

OAT’s goal is to make Sierra Club outings policies “more enduring” by creating a “hybrid” protocol for running outings that OAT believes would allow some flexibility. That said, OAT realizes that states and public health agencies could have significant effect on how national Sierra Club, its chapters and groups, run outings.

One major change which OAT plans to implement during March is to combine outings leader trainings, and make the training available online.

Loo Wit outings start with cycling in late April, we post outings on our MeetUp page. Sea kayak outings will begin by the third week of May, and a new outings leader will hopefully start leading hikes by that time as well.
