July 16–24 marks the annual return of Latino Conservation Week, sponsored by the Hispanic Access Foundation. The week-long event, which first launched in 2014, includes a slate of activities nationwide, from hiking and camping to community gathering, to support Latino/a communities establishing connections with nature and promote the permanent protection of land, water, and air. A new report on the potential impacts of Plaquemines LNG was released and sent this morning in a set of joint comments from Sierra Club and Healthy Gulf to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), which urge the agency to deny the facility’s request to produce an additional 3.2 MTPA (million metric tons per year) of fracked gas. The organizations also argue that FERC must prepare a new Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that fully analyzes the facility’s potential impact on the environment, climate, and environmental justice communities in the construction of the Plaquemines LNG…

Sierra Club and other public health and environmental groups sued EPA to ensure that the agency takes timely action to reduce ozone pollution across the country. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, on behalf of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments, Downwinders at Risk, HEAL Utah, and Sierra Club, represented by Earthjustice.

ARIZONA – Today the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) reaffirmed its April decision in a 3 to 2 vote, denying a rehearing for a certificate of environmental compatibility for Salt River Project's proposed expansion of the gas-fired Coolidge Generating Station. In May, SRP filed for a rehearing, and today's renewed decision closes out the saga at the ACC. Any further action by SRP will need to be pursued in Superior Court.

ARIZONA – Sierra Club has filed a suit against Arizona utility Salt River Project (SRP) in the Superior Court of Arizona for violating Arizona's Public Records Act by withholding critical information about the utility's power generation and planning process. SRP's lack of transparency harms Arizona's communities, eroding trust customers may have had in their utility.
