Highlands Picnic and Hike 2015

Over 120 members and supporters came to the Highlands Natural Pool on August 9 to enjoy the surroundings, have lunch, and hear Chapter Executive Director Jeff Tittel remind us about the importance of preserving the Highlands and the role of the Sierra Club in fighting to preserve open space throughout New Jersey.

Before the picnic, a merry band of around 60 hikers -- ranging in age up to 90 -- set out on a hike from the picnic area to Wyanokie High Point, with several stops to take in the views along the way.  At High Point, the group was treated to a spectacular view of the Wanaque Reservoir and the surrounding valleys and hills, most of which have been preserved as a result of the passage of the Highlands Act.

After the hike, many cooled off by taking a swim in the Natural Pool.
