Our Legislative Approach
Across all issue areas, the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter supports policies that prioritize people, communities, affordability, transparency, and climate resilience over corporate profit. Texans should not be forced to absorb the financial, environmental, or public health costs of unchecked industrial expansion or weak oversight. Public policy should protect communities, safeguard natural resources, and ensure that powerful interests operate responsibly.
In 2027, the Sierra Club Lone Star Chapter will support policies that:
- Protect ratepayers and taxpayers from unfair costs;
- Strengthen public participation and transparency;
- Ensure polluters pay upfront through strict bonding and financial assurance to assure cleanup, and tough and robust enforcement if they don’t follow the rules;
- Prioritize proven, affordable, community-centered solutions to meet our energy and water needs;
- Preserve public access to information, land, water, and natural resources.
