Over 60 organizations from across Texas have released a joint letter demanding urgent action to lower energy bills and modernize the state’s electric grid. The signers include environmental justice groups, labor unions, faith communities, public health advocates, youth organizers, and community members - all united behind a call for affordable, clean, and reliable power.
These demands will be delivered directly to state lawmakers immediately after a press conference at the Texas Capitol on Wednesday, April 9 at 10:30 AM CST.
Why Texans Are Demanding a Cleaner, More Reliable Grid
Over the past several years, Texans have faced skyrocketing utility bills, power grid failures, and emergency energy conservation alerts during sweltering Texas summers. As hot weather approaches, residents are calling for change.
The joint letter urges legislators to:
- Reduce household energy costs through efficiency, equity, and investment
- Transition to a cleaner, more sustainable electric grid
- Hold utilities and grid operators accountable for reliability and public health impacts
61 Organizations Back a Bold Vision for Texas Energy
The joint letter is backed by 60 organizations representing communities across Texas - from the Panhandle to the Gulf Coast,
from family farms to urban centers. These signers reflect a broad and growing movement of Texans who are tired of shouldering the cost of an energy system that doesn’t work for them.
What unites these groups is a shared belief that Texans deserve a grid that puts people first - one that is not only reliable, but also affordable and clean. We’re organizing for long-term solutions.
These 61 organizations bring decades of grassroots power, deep community roots, and the lived experiences of the Texans most impacted by rising bills, blackouts, and environmental injustice. Their voices represent the countless other Texans who are ready for a new energy future - and who are showing up to make it happen.
