There are moments when a room feels bigger than its walls - when the stories, relationships, and shared purpose inside it carry decades of impact. Neil Carman’s Retirement Celebration was one of those moments.
Grounded, inspiring, and filled to capacity, the gathering reflected exactly what Neil has spent his career building: connection, trust, and a deep commitment to people and place. Colleagues, partners, and longtime collaborators showed up in full force, a testament not just to his professional accomplishments, but to the relationships he nurtured along the way.
The evening unfolded through stories. Story after story painted a picture of Neil’s steady leadership, his ability to bring partners together, and his unwavering dedication to environmental protection and community well-being. It was clear that his impact can’t be measured in years alone, but also in the coalitions strengthened, the voices elevated, and the pathways he helped create for others.
Neil’s legacy is one of persistence and partnership - of doing the work thoughtfully, collaboratively, and with integrity. As he steps into this next chapter, and away from his role as Clean Air Director, the community he helped shape stands stronger because of him. We’re tremendously grateful for his years of service, his expertise, and the example he’s set for all of us working toward a more just and sustainable future.
