Jim Robarge

Jim has felt at home in the wilderness from a young age. His grandfather owned a cabin in the Western Massachusetts woods, and he would spend summers there with the freedom to explore the wilderness to his heart’s content. As an adult and father, he guided his sons and other Boy Scouts to appreciate and care for our natural resources as he led them on hikes. He now helps others learn to be safe and appreciate nature by leading outings for the Sierra Club.

Abundant in volunteer experience, Jim was an adult leader in the Boy Scouts for 20 years and on the executive committee of the Maria Kannon Zen Association for 12 years. This experience with helping to lead volunteer organizations has given Jim skills to be effective on the Dallas Sierra Club Executive Committee (ExCom) as they promote efforts for all to enjoy our wild places and use, responsibly, our earth and human resources. Serving on the ExCom and expanding his support of the efforts of the Sierra Club ,beyond Outings, to include all of the group’s efforts, is paramount for Jim. As Outings Chair, Jim has been organizing and leading trips to engage others within the Sierra Club and promoting its conservation efforts, and he sees encouraging others to become Sierra Club Outings Leaders as a critical need for the future health of the organization. Jim is in the process of certifying not only Dallas Group members as Outings Leaders, but also members of other Groups within the state  to support a broader effort. In his personal life, Jim is retired and enjoys time with his family, woodworking and photography.
