Committee Experience: Victoria is a self taught, “trial by fire” environmental advocate. Her advocacy journey began when her rural, small town decided to abandon its recycling program in 2017. Victoria then started a grassroots movement that involved neighbors, local students, and residents who were as outraged as she. After collecting 1200+ signatures, packing City Council meetings, and involving the media, Victoria and local residents were triumphant in getting an even better/more stringent recycling program than what was had before.

Why Are You Volunteering for the ExCom?
Victoria decided to serve on the Dallas Sierra Club ExCom beginning in 2018 to help make decisions that could broaden the reach of what the Dallas Sierra Club could do and expand the regions of North Texas in which they advocate for.

What does your work entail for the Dallas Sierra Club?
As Chair of the Dallas Sierra Club (DSC), Victoria’s role is to support ,enhance, and represent all of the wonderful work that members and colleagues do. The DSC strives for a cohesive “environmental family” within the group where decisions are made and implemented as a supportive unit to tackle whatever environmental issues or successes encountered.

As Chair of the Conservation/Eco Action Committee, Victoria works with local residents who are facing environmental issues of their own. From the horrible side effects of Batch Plants, Superfund Sites, and Polluted Waterways to creating Urban Gardens and Supporting Organic Practices,  The Conservation/Eco Action Committee has a wide reach!

Future Goals for Sierra Club

  • Where do you see the club growing?
One of Victoria’s goals is to have satellite Dallas Sierra Club groups in all local High Schools where students (who are some of the best environmental advocates) create programs and work for the betterment of their microcosm.
  • What are your hopes for the Sierra Club that you want others to know?
The Dallas Sierra Club is the Grandparent of Environmental groups in the U.S. We have been around the block, and we know a thing or two about exacting change in our communities. Like all good Grandparents, we welcome youngsters with open arms and huge smiles to come and take this environmental  journey with us in order to make our world’s environment better than how we found it.
