Make Masks to Support Our Transit Drivers

Transit drivers are some of the incredibly important workers continuing to go to work every day and put themselves at risk by continuing to go to work and make sure that our critical transit systems are running. We’re* asking Sierra Club members and volunteers to thank them by helping to make masks for them.  If you’re at home and have free time and are looking for a way to help, follow these simple instructions. You will need a sewing machine and we’re asking you to provide the materials and pay to mail them.

*Please do not feel pressured to help make masks if you are not in a position to give your time.

Here are the steps to help:

  1. Enter your contact information here and we’ll get in touch with you to answer any of your questions and tell you where to send your masks.

  2. Get your supplies! You should be able to order supplies online, or possibly use pick up services at your local supply stores, call them to see what services they are offering. Don’t forget to dust off the sewing machine.

  3. Sew your mask(s)! You can follow instructions that you prefer or we found these easy, fun ways here and here.

  4. Send us a picture or tag us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter to spread some good news

  5. Mail the mask(s) to the destination (address to be emailed to you when you sign up here)

  6. Pat yourself on the back or do it all over again!

Thank you for thinking of others and finding time to help those who continue to risk their lives for an essential service.

P.S. We are encouraging making masks as part of #GetOnBoard Day. To find out more about Get On Board Day, visit https://www.sierraclub.org/wisconsin/blog/2020/04/get-board-day-thanking-transit-drivers
