The Sierra Club Wisconsin Chapter supports the election of strong environmental leaders in state and local elections, since one of our best hopes for long term gains is building a strong legislative base to protect our environment.
We have been working to stop an unprecedented wave of attacks on recycling, renewable energy, transit, water resources, mining protections, and more over the past 5 years. We will keep fighting each proposal that threatens natural resources. But we also know that the only way to really stop these attacks is to elect pro-conservation candidates, from the US President to the US Senate and Congress on the federal level, to the Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly to local County Boards and City Councils in Wisconsin. It won't be easy, but we can do it with your help!
Endorsements
| Check out our 2026 endorsements, which are based on the votes of our statewide Political Committee and Executive Committee. Before each election, our volunteer-powered Political Committee evaluates candidates’ voting records and commitments to conservation, as well as interviews or sends questionnaires to first-time candidates. This rigorous process ensures that only candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to protecting Wisconsin’s environment receive our endorsement. |
Check out the Toxic Tom Files
| Gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany is well-known to most environmentalists. In the Assembly, he was so harmful to the environment that he earned the nickname “Toxic Tom.” When he was named to the ‘dishonor role’ of an environmental group, he treated it like a badge of honor and hung it in his office, claiming it was because he had “the audacity to take on the environmental left”. He then took his antagonism to natural resource protection to Congress, and his deep, extreme conservatism has been on full display. While Wisconsinites struggle to pay for groceries and utility bills skyrocket, Tom Tiffany’s priorities are not in line. His colleagues in Congress have characterized his priorities as “obsessed with hunting wolves” and “hyper-focused” on extractive industries. Check out the files here. |
