Sierra Club Wisconsin Endorses Tony Evers for Wisconsin Governor

MADISON-- Today, the Sierra Club Wisconsin Chapter endorsed Tony Evers for Governor. This endorsement is on behalf of all 18,000 members in Wisconsin.  It also released released its 2021-22 Legislative Scorecard.

“The Sierra Club is proud to endorse Governor Tony Evers for re-election,” said Dave Blouin, Wisconsin Chapter Political Chair.  “The Governor’s track record of safeguarding our environment and championing climate change solutions to protect Wisconsin is impressive and we heartily support his re-election.”

In response to the announcement, Governor Evers stated, “I’m proud of the work we’ve done in Wisconsin to protect our resources for future generations. Whether it’s fighting for clean drinking water, Wisconsin’s first Clean Energy Plan that creates 40,000 jobs and helps lower utility costs, or investing in renewable energy infrastructure, I will always do the right thing for the future of our state. It’s an honor to have the support of the Sierra Club and its members across Wisconsin who are critical partners in this fight.”

Sierra Club Wisconsin also released its 2021-22 Legislative Scorecard.  In the scorecard, the last session is summed up as “harmful inaction’ as little progress was made while the clock ticks on climate change and air and water pollution.  Fortunately, 43 state lawmakers running for reelection scored a perfect 100% on the scorecard and have been named “2022 Environmental Champion” for their demonstrated commitment to preserving Wisconsin’s environment.

“The inaction we saw this session is unacceptable at a time when people are unable to drink their water and climate change is already wreaking havoc,” explained Elizabeth Ward, Sierra Club Wisconsin Chapter Director. She continued, “Thankfully, Governor Evers recognizes this urgency and has been a tireless protector of Wisconsinites, our families, water, and wild places.”

The Legislative Scorecard will be used, in part, to judge incumbent candidates for endorsements. The Sierra Club will mobilize our members to work for endorsed candidates. Our grassroots member volunteers will help distribute literature, contact neighbors and friends, make phone calls to voters and get out the vote. We will announce additional endorsements soon.

Environmental Champions include: Senators Melissa Agard, Tim Carpenter, Jon Erpenbach, LaTonya Johnson, Chris Larson, Janis Ringhand, Kelda Roys, Lena Taylor, and Robert Wirch and Assemblypeople Jimmy Anderson, Samba Baldeh, Jill Billings, David Bowen, Jonathan Brostoff, Marisabel Cabrera, Sue Conley, Dave Considine, Dora Drake, Jodi Emerson, Evan Goyke, Kalan Haywood, Gary Hebl, Dianne Hesselbein, Gordon Hintz, Francesca Hong, Tip McGuire, Nick Milroy, Supreme Moore Omokunde, LaKeshia Myers, Greta Neubauer, Tod Ohnstad, Sylvia Ortiz Velez, Sondy Pope, Daniel Riemer, Sara Rodriguez, Katrina Shankland, Kristina Shelton, Christine Sinicki, Lee Snodgrass, Mark Spreitzer, Shelia Stubbs, Lisa Subeck, Robyn Vining, and Don Vruwink.
