The People's Energy

Electricity keeps lights on. People power keeps utilities honest.

Every month, we pay the bills that keep KU, LG&E, Duke Energy, the co-ops, and TVA in business. These utilities exist to serve us—yet too often put profits over people. But across Kentucky, our collective power is growing to demand the energy system we deserve.

The Power Struggle: Who really controls our energy future?

Across Kentucky, the energy landscape varies dramatically—and so do the challenges we face as ratepayers and residents. Kentucky's energy system is a patchwork of:

  • Corporate monopolies (KU, LG&E, Duke Energy) that regularly try to push rate hikes through the PSC
  • Electric co-ops where member accountability often disappears
  • Distant bureaucracies (TVA) making decisions with with little local input

They Profit. We Pay.

This isn't just about electricity bills. Across Kentucky, we're paying for utility profits with:

  • Our health - Rising asthma rates near coal-fired plants
  • Our water - Toxic coal ash contaminating rivers
  • Our wallets - Bills skyrocketing while wages stagnate
  • Our future - Delayed transition to affordable clean energy

While utilities bill monthly, we are organizing daily for:

  • HEALTH JUSTICE – So Kentucky won't lead the nation in childhood asthma (currently #5 highest rate)
  • FAIR RATES – Where energy costs don’t force hard choices for working Kentuckians
  • THE ACCOUNTABILITY WE'RE OWED - As the utility funders
  • A COMMITMENT TO THE FUTURE WE NEED - Safe, clean, reliable power that keeps Kentucky moving forward

We're not just customers - we are the real shareholders in Kentucky's future.

ALERT: LG&E/KU to build $2+ billion in new gas plants and they’re asking the PSC to make YOU pay

Corporate energy giant PPL Corporation—parent company of Louisville Gas & Electric (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities (KU)—is pushing a $3.7 billion expansion and justifying this as needed to meet surging electricity demand from data centers (that currently don't exist) and industrial projects. But instead of making big corporations pay their fair share, PPL wants Kentucky families to foot the bill through higher rates.

This isn't just a rate hike—it's a generational theft.

BILLIONS for new gas plants that will be obsolete before they're paid off
40-YEAR LOCK-IN of higher bills to fund their risky bet
ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY for cleaner, cheaper alternatives

If your bill says LG&E or KU, and you're tired of rate hikes padding corporate profits—not improving your service—get the facts and fight back here.
