Kentucky Chapter

We are 6,000 members and supporters in Kentucky, working together to protect our communities and the planet. We are a part of the oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organizations in the nation, with more than three million members and supporters.

With six regional Local Groups and more groups coming soon, you are sure to find a group of environmental champions in your own backyard. Join us in our mission to protect the air, land, water, and wildlife throughout this beautiful state. We are only as strong as our people-power! Environmental justice, the fair treatment of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies, is a part of our mission.

We want all Kentuckians to have to clean air, clean water, healthy food from healthy soil, and access to the wild beauty of our Commonwealth. You can read more about Sierra Club’s core values and mission in a column by Julia Finch, Kentucky Chapter Director.

Kentucky’s legislative session is in full swing—and the decisions made now will shape our water, our air, and our communities for years to come.

Stay informed and ready to act Sign up for our Action Alerts and Legislative Briefings to get trusted updates and clear steps to make your voice heard at the exact moment it matters most.

Kentucky Chapter Spotlight

Celebrating the Great Rivers Group: Investing in Kentucky's Environmental Future

The Kentucky Chapter is incredibly proud of our Great Rivers Group, which is leading by tremendous example with their groundbreaking Sustainability Scholarship. This initiative directly invests in the passionate students who are dedicating themselves to protecting our planet's future.

Their efforts ensure that the next generation of environmental leaders in our community knows we have their backs. By supporting students at Murray State University, we are helping to alleviate financial burdens and empower the very individuals who will champion our cause for decades to come.

Do you know a current Junior, Rising Senior, or Graduate Student who will be attending Murray State University in the Fall of 2026?

If they are involved in environmental sustainability work—whether through their studies, research, or community activism—we encourage them to apply for the Great Rivers Sustainability Scholarship.

This is a wonderful opportunity to support a student's commitment to exploring, enjoying, and protecting our natural world. Please share this within your networks to help us reach every deserving student!

Applications are now being accepted! The deadline to apply is December 31, 2025.
