By Carole Mintzer, Chair, Climate and Clean Energy Committee
Now, more than ever, we need to work toward responsible, renewable energy to address climate change (it’s not a hoax!). The Chapter’s Climate and Clean Energy Committee was established to get and share information about renewable energy projects in San Luis Obispo County. Despite setbacks from the federal government, certain aspects of these projects are moving forward.
In a recent planning session, committee members agreed to focus on:
- Advocacy - championing renewable energy options that are minimally harmful to our environment
- Education - sharing factual information about climate change solutions (as opposed to the mis- and disinformation that sounds plausible but isn’t)
- Collaboration - with other SLO County climate-focused organizations because we are more powerful together
As we move forward, we’ll endeavor to:
- Learn more about what local partners are doing and how we can work together.
- Develop a list of who we need to influence about which issues and when.
- Be prepared to advocate for renewable energy.
- Regularly share information about renewable energy and climate change with Sierra Club members and supporters - through regular newsletter articles and updating our webpage.
The members of the Climate and Clean Energy Committee recognize that climate change is devastating to many forms of life on our planet, not just humans. If you are interested in joining our efforts, please fill out this brief volunteer questionnaire or send a message to sierraclub8@gmail.com.
We look forward to hearing from you!
