Polluters and their cronies can try to disguise the destructive side of their plans, but we’re here to unveil what lurks beneath.
Here are the scariest monsters that pose a danger this Halloween:
Data center vampires want to suck up our water and energy. A new report shows that just TWO data centers use as much energy as the ENTIRE state of Wisconsin. Dozens of data centers have been proposed in Wisconsin.
Water pollution is gobbling up our clean water. PFAS pollution has resulted in advisories to not drink or cook with water, in multiple parts of our state. Some include warnings not to eat duck or fish too.
Highway expansions threaten to bulldoze houses and create ghost neighborhoods. Highway projects, like the expansion of I94 in Milwaukee, further segregate transportation access, add to air pollution and undermine public transportation.
Our democracy and constitutional rights are under attack by headless horsemen. From voting rights to reproductive freedom to the three branches of Government, we’ve seen attacks on our most fundamental protections.
The Line 5 pipeline could ooze oil into our Great Lakes. The Line 5 pipeline has already spilled over 1 million gallons of oil. If a spill occurred in the Bad River watershed, where the pipeline is trespassing on the Bad River reservation, it could reach Lake Superior.
Greedy Ghouls will be slashing through our forests if the Roadless Rule is repealed. The Roadless Rule protects 60,000 acres of forest in Wisconsin from harmful road building. This keeps areas calm for wildlife and prevents logging and mining in sections of the forest. The Trump administration is proposing to eliminate this critical rule.
Brain-eating zombies feasting on facts. Misinformation campaigns infect public debate and turn scientific decisions into political ones. Before the zombies are fought off, misinformation has already sunk its teeth into our natural resource decisions.
These monsters are real.
This Halloween, be a hero and help protect our communities.
- Write to Governor Evers and ask him to be a hero and ensure data centers undergo robust environmental review and ensure data centers will not suck up our our climate, water, and pocketbooks. Write to him here.
- Write a letter-to-the-editor and call for the protection of the Roadless Rule. Revoking the Roadless Rule, one of America's most successful conservation measures, would have devastating effects on wildlife, drinking water, communities, local tourism economies, clean air, and wildfire management. Learn how and write a letter-to-the-editor here.
- Spread the word to shut down Line 5. The movement to shut down Line 5 is growing. Troubled Waters is airing on PBS, the Fish for the Future display is at the Capitol right now. Put up a yard sign, add a sticker to your waterbottle, and talk to your friends, family, and decision-makers about the need to shut down Line 5.
- Learn about the places at risk- use our new dashboard to learn about what makes your favorite places in Wisconsin special.
- Make a donation to the Wisconsin Chapter- We’ll put it to work, right here in Wisconsin, to help stop the polluters' scary halloween party. Our staff, leaders and dedicated volunteers are working tirelessly to write a different ending to this story. One where our water, land, wildlife and rights are protected. Make a donation today.
