In 2015 and 2016, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) opened a four-month comment period and announced twelve public meetings across the state to collect input for their Draft State Forest Resource Management Plan (SFRMP). We rallied our members to participate in this public process to shape how the DCNR will manage our State Forests, including shale gas and water resources, for the next five to ten years. Stay tuned for updates regarding upcoming district-level meetings.
Milestones
The Sierra Club generated 518 comments to DCNR concerning the draft plan and 253 letters to DCNR asking for extension of the public comment period. At the twelve statewide public hearings, twenty one Sierra Club volunteers signed up to deliver comments. We also met with DCNR staff to discuss the draft plan and to advocate for public lands. In addition to joining with the Save the Loyalsock Coalition to submit a letter concerning the Clarence Moore Land to DCNR, our volunteer team also worked with a forestry expert to submit a technical comment to SFRMP draft in support of good management practices and responsible recreation.
