Meet Bob, the new Vermont Volunteer Coordinator

Bob Galvin

I'm excited to introduce myself as your new Volunteer Coordinator here in Vermont. My name is Bob Galvin, and I’m thrilled to be joining a community that has long been at the forefront of protecting our state’s natural heritage and advancing bold climate solutions. As you know, the Sierra Club prides itself on our connection and commitment to volunteer leaders, and I am reaching out to ask you to complete this two-minute survey so I can get a better understanding of how I can best serve our members.

I'd like to share a bit about how I came into this role. Like many of you, my commitment to this work is deeply personal. As a former wildlife researcher with a Masters degree in Biology, I’ve spent years focused on protecting biodiversity, strengthening habitat connectivity, and ensuring that our public lands are managed for long-term ecological health. I’ve also had the opportunity to work alongside advocates, legislators, and community leaders at the Statehouse, experience that I’m eager to bring into building an even stronger, more connected Sierra Club network across Vermont. On top of that, I’ve had the pleasure of volunteering with the Vermont Chapter’s Legislative Team for the last two years, and I’m beyond excited to move beyond my volunteer role into one where I’m doing more direct work with the Sierra Club, and with you.

In my personal time, I love connecting with Vermont’s amazing natural beauty through rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, foraging for mushrooms,  watching birds and other wildlife, and snowboarding. I really value and love connecting with folks with similar interests and perspectives about the world, so please reach out if you ever want to go for a walk in the woods or grab coffee at your local watering hole.

As the Volunteer Coordinator, my goal is simple: to make it easier, more impactful, and more rewarding for you to plug into this work. In the coming weeks, I’ll be reaching out with opportunities to get involved, whether that’s attending events, participating in advocacy campaigns, or helping shape the direction of our work. I deeply want to hear from you: what issues matter most to you, and how would you like to engage? Please take a minute to fill out this brief survey so I can get a better idea of how I can best be of use to you all, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, comments, or want to talk further about any issues or concerns.

Thank you for everything you’ve done, and continue to do, for Vermont’s environment and people. I’m looking forward to working alongside you.

In solidarity,

Bob Galvin
