For almost a century your Loma Prieta Chapter, with generous support from people like you, has protected thousands of acres of local wildlife habitat, influenced environmental policies, held accountable in court those who destroyed our environment, educated and supported volunteer advocates, promoted the best environmental leaders running for office, and helped residents discover and fall in love with our local nature.
Through the unpredicted emergency of the past year, your Loma Prieta Chapter continued fighting for a healthy future for our region and planet with the same tenacity as ever. This was possible because of our supportive community.
Our environment relies on us, just as we rely on you. Your gift of $30, $60, $120, or more will help us ensure that environmental protection remains a priority in these times marked by a global pandemic. Can we count on your help?
Throughout the cities of our region, we are advancing the adoption of Reach Codes, which are government measures to accelerate a transition from burning fossil fuels to using green energy. Twenty-one cities in our Chapter have already adopted Reach Codes, including San Jose, the largest city in the world to do so.
In Redwood City and Millbrae, we worked with decision-makers on strengthening Climate Action Plans to ensure that cities set ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets, track those measurable targets regularly, and implement their plans with sea-level rise and environmental justice in mind. Currently, we are supporting Palo Alto and San Mateo County in updating their Climate Action Plans.
In cities across the Peninsula, we are working with city councils and planners to create bikeable and walkable, low-carbon communities. Currently, we are focused on South San Francisco, San Mateo, Sunnyvale, and Redwood City, greening our cities, advocating for affordable housing, and restoring the Bay edge in preparation for sea-level rise.
In Southern Santa Clara County, we are partnering with our allies and decision-makers to permanently protect all of Coyote Valley from destruction. This last unpaved valley floor in our region provides a critical safe linkage for wildlife migration from the Mount Diablo range to the Santa Cruz Mountains.
We at the Loma Prieta Chapter never compromise our stand on the protection of our local environment. We can do this because we are independent since most of our funding comes from private donors like you. However, only a sliver of your membership dues to Sierra Club National are returned to your Loma Prieta Chapter for our environmental effort so please make your gift of $30, $60, $120, or more to have a direct impact on the health of our future.
