Pacifica Hillsides and Coastal Protection

Mission

We are a city-based educator and advocate on matters affecting our fragile coast and hillsides. We recognize the unique characteristics of our coastal community, bordering densely developed urban areas including San Francisco, Daly City and South San Francisco, and coastal communities to the south. We highly value the unique physical characteristics of our community, and aim to protect its biodiversity and access to open space, while serving the needs for affordable housing and transportation in this modest sized diverse community.

Approach

Our team pays close attention to official planning documents and projects, providing public comment as appropriate and joining forces with like-minded organizations (listed below). Promoting nature-based and long-term solutions is our guiding principle. We engage with local leaders (elected and volunteer), community members, public agency staff on matters involving land use and environmental justice. Team members advocate for Sierra Club priorities as they apply to Pacifica, partnering with other organizations as appropriate. We strive to incorporate sound planning principles into official city plans, including the General Plan, specific plans, Climate Action Resilience Plan, Local Coastal Land Use Plan, and capital improvement plans.
