Then this is the class for you - Highly Experienced Outings Leaders will share their decades of experience in leading outdoor trips, and apply their knowledge to OLT 101, the Sierra Club’s Basic Leader Training This training is mandatory for new leaders who wish to lead any trip that does not require an overnight stay. This training is highly recommended for current/past leaders who wish to continue/renew their certification. This covers dayhiking, kayaking, ski trips, etc. January 29th, 6:00 - 9:30 pm. Island Hopping in Channel Islands National Park
April 7-9 May 5-7 June 9-11, July 14-16
August 18-20, September 22-24, October 20-22
Join us for a 3-day, 3-island, live-aboard tour of the enchanting Channel Islands. Hike wild, windswept trails bordered with blazing wildflowers. Kayak rugged coastlines, Marvel at pristine waters teeming with frolicking seals and sea lions. Train your binoculars on unusual sea and land birds—and an occasional whale. Watch for the endangered island fox. Look for reminders of the Chumash people who lived on these islands for thousands of years. Or, just relax at sea. This cruise departs from Santa Barbara. The cost, $730, includes an assigned bunk and all meals, snacks, and beverages. Kayaking will be overseen by our concessionaire; all hikes will be on trails, class 1 terrain. This trip is a fundraiser to support the Sierra Club political program in California. There are many ways to become a local environmental hero!
1. Support financial: Shop thru Amazon, Legacy/Planned Giving, Employer Matching, One Time Gift for our Education Programs, Donate a vehicle, Gifts of Stock, Join/Renew Membership
2. Volunteer by joining one our local conservation teams, or political action teams, or environmental education teams, or outings teams.
3. Volunteer as an Environmental Writer/Reporter
Commitment is 5 - 10 hours per week.
The Loma Prieta Chapter has done and is doing an incredible amount of conservation work, but while our conservation activist are busy doing the work, we need reporters to write about it. If you are interested in this impactful opportunity to investigate and explain local conservation, write to chapter.director@lomaprieta.sierraclub.org.
4. Volunteer as a Social Media Coordinator
You don't need to be an expert. You'll be provided all content and only need to post on a regular basis. Commitment is 2-3 hrs per week.
