It’s a tough year for the California budget and Governor Newsom is looking to cut budgets from 30x30.
California has six years to protect six million acres of land and half a million acres of coastal waters. Meeting 30x30 will require a substantial commitment to acquire, restore, and manage lands and coastal waters; and, serious investments in conservation, a strong accountability structure, and long-term funding to build the capacity of tribes, land trusts, and community-based organizations that are at the forefront of protecting California’s nature.
The Power In Nature coalition is a statewide community-driven initiative with over 100 organizations that are committed to reaching the goal of protecting 30% of California’s land and coastal waters by 2030. The four pillars of 30x30 being equitable access, protecting biodiversity, Tribal elevation, and climate adaptation.
Mary Buxton, the SCLP 30x30 Task Force Coordinator, joined the meeting with other members of the Power In Nature coalition along with constituents from San Benito County. The group asked for his help in maintaining and restoring the funding for 30x30.
