It’s what we call the Healing Power of Nature. And it’s what your very own Loma Prieta Chapter brings to veterans all over the Bay Area. We are honored to be part of a special program which offers outdoor experiences to veterans and their family members. The goal of Sierra Club Military Outdoors (SCMO) is to improve the lives of veterans and their family members via outdoors activities and to foster camaraderie, connection and community.
Only a handful of Sierra Club chapters (out of 64 in all) have this program and only our Loma Prieta Chapter includes pole walking and pole hiking training as well as outdoor excursions – all free for our veterans and their family members. Our recent visit to the US Army Corps of Engineers Bay Model to celebrate Veterans Day is a heartwarming example of bringing veterans together in a way that enriches lives and touches hearts.
“I found the experience to be uplifting and emotionally supportive. Connecting with others who share a passion for the outdoors, especially in a military-friendly environment, reinforced how meaningful it is to pursue wellness and healing through nature." - Yolanda Faye, US Air Force
