Some of Bay Alive's most important work occurs long before there's a project to rally around or a decision to celebrate or challenge.
At the Bay Conservation and Development Commission’s (BCDC) October 15th Sea Level Rise Working Group meeting, two big questions were on the table.
- Should BCDC have stronger authority to ensure that shoreline projects follow approved sea level rise adaptation plans?
- How can BCDC help steer limited funding toward effective, equitable adaptation projects and help local communities access those resources?
Three Bay Alive advocates provided public comment. We advocate at meetings like this as early conversations about priorities, funding, and regulatory authority can shape shoreline decisions for years to come. It's not always headline-grabbing work, but is essential for ensuring the interests of our living Bay and frontline communities are heard.
We're paying attention, asking questions, and speaking up, at the regional level and in communities around the Bay. Want to help? Join a local or regional Bay Alive team and help shape the decisions that will affect your community's future.
