Philadelphia, PA - The Sierra Club’s Southeastern PA Group (SPG) supports the goals and steps called for in the Stop Trashing Our Air Act introduced by Councilmember Jamie Gauthier.
The Sierra Club has an established policy against the burning of trash and advocates for communities to pursue the goal of Zero Waste (Zero Waste Guidance on Destructive Disposal), a goal that Philadelphia has set for itself in 2017.
Burning Philadelphia’s trash at the Reworld Incinerator is harmful to the people that live and work in Chester and also contributes to the poor air quality in Philadelphia. A well documented environmental justice issue.
We call on all Philadelphia councilmembers and Mayor Parker to support this measure.
About the Sierra Club: The Sierra Club is America’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, with millions of members and supporters. In addition to protecting every person's right to get outdoors and access the healing power of nature, the Sierra Club works to promote clean energy, safeguard the health of our communities, protect wildlife, and preserve our remaining wild places through grassroots activism, public education, lobbying, and legal action.
