Public lands provide open space and clean water for our communities, critical habitats for native plants and animals, and connections to our history and culture. They are also the last stronghold for many threatened ecosystems and species in our region.
In the urban and suburban landscapes in the greater Philadelphia area, municipal, county, state and federally managed spaces, as well as land trusts, provide our families with the opportunities to get outside together and create lifelong memories while also being part of a critical climate solution by storing carbon pollution.
For preserved lands to be completely public, they need to be accessible by all of us.

IMPACTS OF PUBLIC LANDS ON OUR COMMUINITIES
State parks, like Ridley Creek State Park (photo credit) is a frequent destination for hikers, bikers, family gatherings, fishing and environmental education for residents of Philadelphia, Delaware County and beyond. Park property was purchased during the 1960s with Project 70 funds, and developed with Land and Water Conservation Fund moneys.
Park facilities were dedicated to public use during August of 1972.
We are so thankful today for this gift to future generations.
