Sierra Club Responds to Governor Scott’s EV Executive Order.
MONTPELIER, VT. -- Governor Phil Scott today issued Executive Order 04-25, prematurely directing the Agency of Natural Resources to pause enforcement of a multi-state plan requiring vehicle manufacturers to meet certain electric vehicle (EV) sales targets for passenger cars and medium- and heavy-trucks. The Advanced Clean Cars II and Advanced Clean Truck Rules are pivotal carbon reduction measures in the Vermont Climate Action Plan.
In response, Sierra Club Vermont Conservation Program Manager Robb Kidd issued the following statement:
“The Vermont Sierra Club is dismayed by Governor Scott's delay in enforcing critical air and climate emission reduction programs, Advanced Clean Cars II and Advanced Clean Trucks. There has been a well-financed national campaign to slow progress in the transition to electric vehicles. Instead of supplying electric vehicles, auto manufacturers are employing tactics to hinder progress. Governor Scott is leaving Vermonters vulnerable to the impacts of air pollution and continues to trap Vermonters in polluting and costly fossil fuels.”
