I want to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who has made my tenure with the Sierra Club rewarding throughout the past 11 years. As I begin my new role as the Vermont Chapter’s first Chapter Director, I am inspired by the environmental activism and people-centered advocacy for which the Sierra Club is renowned. With this inspiration comes also deep concern with vehement attacks by the Trump Administration and corporate polluters against our public lands, water, and wildlife here in Vermont. At this pivotal time, I am reaching out for your help to ensure the Vermont we love is protected.
Many years ago, I dreamed of working for the Sierra Club after seeing firsthand what happens when communities are ripped apart by mindless development. My hometown in New Jersey was aggressively ripped apart to build massive corporate headquarters and large housing developments. I have seen many places compromised by a false sense of growth and progress. I learned at an early age that if I wanted to see change, I needed to be the change I wished to see... We can be that change together.
Polluters, corporations, and billionaires continue to poison our communities. Vermont is not immune to that. As of right now, a fossil fuel front group, Americans for Prosperity, is already spending big money to deceive Vermonters into weakening our climate policies and undermining our bedrock environmental laws. Together, we will stand up to corporate interests and protect Vermont by growing this movement, amplifying our impact, and rallying resources to meet the moment.
With your support, we will
- Rebuild the movement to combat climate change,
- Reestablish Vermont as a leader in conservation and sustainability
- Make Clean Transportation solutions accessible for all
- Hold polluters accountable
- Build Community by increasing our local outings
I invite you to support our work at the highest level you can– whether it’s $10, $25, or $100—and to bring others with you. Together, we can continue this vital work.
If you give now or until the end of the year, a generous donor is matching all contributions up to $20,000, meaning your contribution gets doubled.
The Sierra Club to me is more than just a job; it is a community of caring and dedicated people that strive to step up and secure our future. I am proud to be part of an organization that recognizes that addressing the climate crisis requires building a just and equitable society.
Despite harmful political agendas of chaos and destruction, I am hopeful because Vermonters like you don’t buy into divisive and destructive rhetoric. With you, we will protect our Vermont values and landscape and lead a people-powered movement. If there was ever a time to fight, it is now.
Thanks to supporters like you, we’re building grassroots power, driving systemic change, and protecting the places and people we love. In my time, like many of you, I have hiked the peaks of our Green Mountains, paddled and swum in many of our rivers, ponds, and lakes, and biked up our hills and through our valleys. We live in a special place, and I strive to protect it with you.
As the first Sierra Club Vermont Chapter Director, I am so excited to work alongside you to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of Vermont.
My Best,
Robb Kidd
Vermont Chapter Director
